last version - given to Simon

Introduction

Over the past 50 years, television has been considered to be the most powerful medium. According to NOP World, globally, people spend about 16.6 hours per week watching television. This medium plays a major role in informing and educating people; however, it is a business and in the last few years there has been an increased interest in to what extend its information and images are controlled. The researchers’ findings and opinions regarding this topic are divided. A common viewpoint is that television creates a confusing reality, but its implication on society is harmless; people observe without adapting or performing what they have seen. This essay will put the case against this common viewpoint; in other words, it will show not only that the TV’s fantasy life leaves a mark on people in real life, but also how dangerous individuals can be influenced by fantasy life images. The arguments are organized in the following three sections: advertising images, common stereotypes and violent media images.
.
Paragraph 1: Marketers messaging and images make people want to buy their products. (Ofcom - Office of Communication has tightened regulations on advertising targeting children.)

Paragraph 2: The twisted image of stereotypes seems to influence people expectance on real life (distortion of standards of beauty and values...)

Paragraph 3: Function of individual’s personality, people exposed to violent images are more likely to act aggressively.
.
Conclusion: This writing sustains the statement that our civilization is dangerously influenced by media images, highlighting the drawbacks of television effects on people way of thinking, values and behaviours.
